Registration
We advise throughout the process of new registrations and variations; avoiding costly mistakes with “new build” homes
We advise owners throughout the process of new registrations and variations, including completing all the required paperwork. We have encountered many cases where a “new build” home has not met the required standards, and where the regulators have made unnecessary (and unenforceable) demands. Involving us in the initial design with architects will eliminate costly mistakes. We will liaise with the statutory bodies to ensure registration is granted as early as possible.
Case study: a new-build home had registration delayed by over 12 months due to unnecessary demands by the regulator. Equally, the home had been built with some rooms not meeting the National Minimum Standards. The home eventually opened with 15% less places than planned. An early consultation with us would have ensured the home met the standards and opened on target. We are currently working with the owner to revise the accommodation to meet the original specification.
We assist managers through the “fit person” registration process, including advice on completion of the self-assessment questionnaires and advising on the interview. We provide 1:1 training on the responsibilities of owners, Responsible Individuals and Registered Managers under the Care Standards Act 2000 and associated legislation (please see Staff Training).
We can also advise on the implications of the Health and Social Act 2008 and associated Regulations and Standards. At present the draft Regulation - The Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations - have not gone through Parliament, leaving the new ´Essential Standards of Quality and Safety´ in abeyance. However, the re-registration of every service currently registered under the Care Standards Act 2000 will proceed between April and October 2010
